Summertime is usually fun time. It’s also a great time to teach kids young and old about the value of giving back. I recently saw an article on “Give Back Tuesdays,” where families donate time and energy to giving back to their communities on Tuesdays – and I thought it was a terrific idea!
Here are some great ways to get your whole family involved in giving back:
- Spend a morning cleaning up a park, river, or nature trail.
- Donate blood (Note that they are appointment only - there is a vital need right now).
- Plant a tree or trees.
- Find out what your local food pantry needs, and deliver those items.
- Help deliver groceries or medication for someone in your area who might be vulnerable and unable to get out at this time.
- Send appreciation to our health care providers on the front lines. There are services such as Health Hero Hotline which allow you to leave messages of appreciation and support. Call 877-226-HERO (4376).
- Reuse and recycle as a family.
- Put together a care package for someone who could use an extra dose of love.
- Send hand-written cards out to at least five people to make their day.
